Five step guide to Bollywood beauty

Posted on Tuesday, 25 September 2012 by in Beauty

To ensure that your makeup is Bollywood perfect, makeup artist Ruby Hammer shares an easy five-step guide to recreating the glamorous leading lady look at home.

Step One: The Basics
Start with a flawless base and a 3 in 1 moisturiser to prepare the skin. Leave it to sink in for five minutes and then apply a good foundation and powder finish. I use a selection of blushers from Mac – in pinks, peaches, and corals shades – layered on thickly to create a vibrant glow.

Step Two: Strong Eyebrows
Every Bollywood star has killer eyebrows. Get your eyebrows threaded by a professional, it really makes all the difference. Every big department store has a brow bars these days – you can get yours done for under R200. Use a matt brow colour with an angled bristle brush. Bobbi Brown Brow Kit comes with it’s own brush and tweezers and the colour lasts all day.

Step Three: Eyeliner and Lashes
It can be a simple flick or bold as you feel confident to carry off. My favourites are Bobbi Brown and Mac eyeliners.

Step Four: Bold Colour
Try the latest Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in gold (the shade is called “Vision”) on eyelids.

Step Five: Big Hair and Bling
A Bollywood star wouldn’t dream of going out without luxurious bouncy hair. They spend a lot of money on extensions and treatments. If an up-and-coming starlet was to leave the house with flat hair up in a bun rumours would start that she’s in an ‘art house’ movie! Jewellery is a must have. Big dangly earrings and a statement necklace are a starting point, but get the full effect by adding hair, face, hand, ankle and foot jewellery for an authentic Bollywood look.
