Babita: A loud whisper

Over the past two decades, Babita Malkani has been successfully embedding aesthetic themes, artistic expressions and an international appeal into her illustrative collections. The widely admired designer outweighs in embracing haute couture, rich fabrics with spirited cuts and shapes that reveal contemporary high fashion.

Having commenced her respective career in 1988, Malkani set up her first business label ‘Whispers’ and went on to release her another label ‘Babita M’ in the year 2006 which also currently retails out of Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad. Reaching new heights, the remarkably appreciated label has further leveraged the fashion standards by taking country-specific designs to international platforms like Dubai, London, New York, Atlanta and Johannesburg. The creative collection by Malkani incorporates a global sense with beautiful color combinations and rich silhouettes.
She has also been noted for showcasing her incredibly innovative creations at the Dubai Fashion Week, in 2009. Following the commendable success of the show, the appealing collection landed on luxury store shelves in Dubai, South Africa and across Europe.

Malkani’s “Boh-Aum” collection, put together for the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2010, further went on to be displayed at the Global Runway’s Night Out Spring-Summer 2010 in New York, and was witnessed by famous contemporaries Padma Lakshmi, Stephanie Singh, Naeem Khan, Warren+White and Misha Nicole, among others.

Besides this, the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2010 witnessed her showcasing the collection “Irzina Kara- Ravishing Earth” inspired from the beautiful terrains of Cappadocia, Turkey, which won her accolades in the global fashion arena.

Known for taking inspirations from people and places, Babita Malkani has always been intriguing with the inclusion of arty expressions and beautiful surroundings. Also, the designer putup the most extravagant visual treat in her Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2011 collection “Iktar” along with bringing the folk Baul singers from Bengal who encouraged her flow of ideas.
